Curated navigational map — intelligence augmentation & AI

Intelligence Augmentation & AI: what should the machine help a person do?

Clyde Street does not treat AI as a one-way march toward automation. Machine support appears here as memory, retrieval, tracking, replay, modelling, live information, portals, prediction, decision support and organisational infrastructure. The repeated question is more human: which capability is being enlarged, who still owns the judgement, and what happens when the tool starts changing the activity it was meant to support?

The rows are human capabilities and responsibilities. The columns are different relationships between those capabilities and technology. That makes this a different entrance from the Technology matrix, which starts with what technology does, and from Seeing & Observation, which starts with what becomes available to perceive.

Boundary: augmentation is not proof of benefit. Automation does not remove responsibility. More data can increase surveillance, cognitive load or incentive distortion. Historical resemblance does not establish one lineage from Bush or Engelbart to sport analytics. AI and enterprise definitions remain source-owned. A system that can measure or predict something does not establish that it should. Redesign, non-adoption and removal are legitimate outcomes.
